Since June 25, some vendors in Huaqiangbei have temporarily suspended their business as Shenzhen stepped up efforts to contain the spread of the highly contagious Omicron Covid-19, including the first and second stores of Huaqiang Electronics World, according to financial media Cailianshe.

Business in Huaqiangbei was suspended twice in March this year due to the COVID-19 outbreaks in Shenzhen. The first time was from March 3 to 6 this year, various wholesale electronics markets and other businesses were closed after one local confirmed Covid-19 case was found. On March 12, Huaqiang Electronics World and a number of vendors again announced the suspension of business from March 12 to 15 in answer to the local government’s Covid-19 restrictions.

A local staff said the ongoing closure officially started  on the 25th, and it is unknown when it will be lifted. Currently, businesses in the west of Huaqiangbei Pedestrian Street have been suspended as well. But  the SEG Electronics Market(赛格电子市场) in the east is still open.(校对/WM Zhang)
